To mark Queen’s 70-year reign, colour experts from AkzoNobel and McLaren have created a special silver paint.
AkzoNobel’s colour experts collaborate with luxury supercar maker McLaren Automotive to create a special Platinum Jubilee paint to honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her 70-year reign. The silver shade has been applied to a one-off McLaren Artura, the company’s next generation hybrid supercar.
Beyond to mark Queen’s 70-year reign, the paint aims to celebrate the 18th
anniversary since Her Majesty opened the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey.
“It has been an honour to create a new platinum paint in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year. This special paint, which will be available for customers to select for years to come, will be a fitting tribute to mark this historic milestone”, says Ansar Ali, Managing Director McLaren Special Operations, McLaren Automotive.
The Platinum Jubilee paint has been matched to the materials used in a special badge created by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) – McLaren’s in-house bespoke division – to mark the royal occasion. In order to create the perfect match, AkzoNobel’s colour experts analysed various lighting conditions to define the most suitable metallic pigment combination.
Commenting on this latest collaboration, Jason Barker, Technical Service Representative at AkzoNobel Speciality Coatings Automotive and Aerospace EMEA, says: “To be able to collaborate everyday with some of the most experienced, skilled and technically creative minds at McLaren Special Operations is an absolute joy. Being able to see paint come to life on a vehicle after starting in the minds of a development team, there is no greater satisfaction. The Platinum Jubilee silver is a testament to that.”
