KIA Motors employed the bio-based paint supplied by AkzoNobel for the interiors of its new EV9 electric SUV.
KIA Motors has recently announced that it has employed the bio-based paints supplied by the international coatings manufacturer AkzoNobel
for the interior parts of its new EV9 electric SUV. The two companies have been partners for more that a decade and although this new agreement is currently limited to the models produced in South Korea, it is expected to be extended to several other vehicles.
The special paint applied on the interior door switch panels is created using two different kinds of bio-rosin (a solid form of resin): one is extracted from rapeseed, while the other is obtained from pine rosin. The other components are also coated with products supplied by AkzoNobel.
As well as obtaining 100% colour master approval, the bio-based paint of the EV9 models also meets all of the requirements of KIA Motors for both chemical and physical resistance against suncream, air freshener, heat and scratches.
“Both companies have a long history of developing more sustainable products and we are proud to have played a role in helping KIA Motors achieve a notable production landmark,” has stated Patrick Bourguignon, the director of the Automotive and Specialty Coatings business of AkzoNobel. “KIA Motors had a very specific coating requirement for the EV9 and the performance of our bio-based product met all their needs. It is the latest example of how we as a business continue to develop advanced coatings technology that minimizes environmental impact, without compromising on quality.”
