The new coating launched by Cortec allows to reduce friction on the inside of the pipes while providing corrosion protection.
Cortec® Corporation has recently presented its new EcoShield® VpCI®-386 HT Slip Coating, a new product specifically intended to prevent the inside of electrical conduits from rusting while providing, at the same time, enough slip for electrical wires to pass through.
This new solution is a high-heat-resistant, water-based DTM coating that offers improved surface slip, excellent outdoor weathering and thermal heat protection. It allows to significantly retard the reaction of metal ionization and repels water, protecting against corrosive electrolytes and aggressive environments. In addition, it resists sagging and running and is thermally stable when dried in ambient temperatures up to almost 260 °C, depending on colour choice (Clear, Black or Aluminium).
Electrical conduits are more vulnerable to corrosion when stored outdoors than indoors or when installed in a tropical and humid climate instead of a hot and dry one. EcoShield® VpCI®-386 HT Slip Coating offers then an extended protection in sheltered, unsheltered, indoor or outdoor conditions and is UV resistant to resist cracking or chipping from prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Fields of application of EcoShield® VpCI®-386
Corrosion protection is required in several phases of the piping life cycle:
- In case of outdoor storage, EcoShield® VpCI®-386 HT Slip Coating can help to prevent flash rust on internal coatings that had been not fully cured.
- If manufacturers ship pipes and tubing overseas, where they have to be stored for periods sometimes longer than six months before installation, Cortec’s solution can help protect against internal corrosion.
- When Installations take place in harsh environments, this coating allows to delay or reduce the corrosion process inside the tubing, ensuring that the electrical conduits will last longer.
By combining slip coatings with Cortec® VpCI® corrosion inhibitors, the company aims to provide an efficient solution for electrical conduits manufacturers, that will be able to quickly push electrical wiring through the tubes while also protecting them against corrosion.
