Perstorp Commits to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Date: 11/05/2021

In line with Paris Climate Agreement, Perstorp Group has committed to setting science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

With ambitions to become the number one sustainable solutions provider within prioritized markets, Perstorp Group has not only committed to becoming Finite Material Neutral, but has also announced its commitment to emission reduction targets in line with Paris Climate Agreement and the Science Based Targets initiative, which advocates science-based target setting as a way of boosting companies’ competitive advantage in the transition to the low-carbon economy. It is a collaboration between Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

Science-based targets provide companies with a clearly defined pathway to future-proof growth by specifying how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Targets will be set for both direct and indirect emissions (scope 1, 2 and 3 according to the GHG protocol) and calculated with projected future expansion and growth considered.

“For direct greenhouse gas emissions, a challenge is to significantly reduce emissions from our production plants while growing our production. To reduce our indirect emissions, we need to intensify the transition from fossil raw materials to more sustainable, lower carbon footprint alternatives, and grow our Pro-Environment product portfolio. We are already committed to a sustainable transformation and working with Science Based Targets initiative enables us to be transparent in the process, and will ensure that our low-carbon transformation is aligned with climate science,” says Anna Berggren, VP Sustainability at Perstorp Group.

“The chemical industry, which is fundamental to almost all other industries and sectors, has an important role to play in reaching the goals set by the Paris Climate Agreement. As a business within the chemical industry, we believe we can help enable a sustainable transition for all those other industries, sectors and products along our value chains, and we are committed to doing our part,” highlighted Jan Secher, President and CEO at Perstorp Group.
