PPG’s CORAFLON Platinum showed minimal changes in both color and gloss retention, surpassing the industry-standard 10-year benchmark with outstanding performance.
The global paints and coatings supplier PPG has unveiled new data showcasing the exceptional color and gloss retention of its CORAFLON® Platinum powder coating for architectural extrusions.
Independent third-party testing, conducted by Atlas Material Testing Solutions in accordance with Fenestration and Glazing Industrial Alliance and American Architectural Manufacturers Association (FGIA/AAMA) 2605 standards, reveals that CORAFLON Platinum retains 20 times the color stability of competing products over a five-year period, with only a 6% loss in color. In comparison, a leading competitor’s Slate Gray shade experienced significant color fading, while both Slate Gray and Bone White colours lost 80% or more of their gloss over the same period.

CORAFLON Platinum powder coating also passed 4,000 hours of cyclic corrosion testing, equivalent to 5-7 years of real-world exposure, highlighting its durability. In addition to its superior color and gloss retention, the coating offers a wide range of gloss options, from 5 to 85, compared to the typical range of 25 to 70 in standard FEVE (fluoroethylene vinyl ether) powder coatings.
Architects and designers can choose from a diverse palette of colours, including mineral tones and finishes that mimic materials such as cement, stone, and terracotta. The PPG Coraflon Platinum collection features the themes of Embrace, Engage, and Escape, reflecting current design trends.
