The new PPG Duranext™ range uses electron beam or ultra-violet energy to create a fully-cured solid finish in seconds.
The international paints and coatings manufacturer PPG
has recently announced the launch of its new PPG Duranext™ portfolio of electron-beam (EB) and ultraviolet (UV) curable backers, primers, basecoats and clearcoats, which uses energy to convert a liquid paint into a fully-cured solid finish in seconds at ambient temperatures, without any significant loss of thickness or weight.
“As an early pioneer of energy-curable coatings for wood, PPG leveraged 30 years of expertise to develop these state-of-the-art technologies for interior and exterior metal building product applications. Developing UV-and EB-curable coatings for pre-painted metal is a remarkable advancement in energy curing technologies and illustrates our commitment to innovation and more sustainable manufacturing across the industries that we serve,” has stated Irene Tasi, the senior vice-president of the Industrial Coatings division of PPG.
Unlike traditional coil coating systems requiring very high temperatures for curing process, PPG Duranext ensures efficiency and high speed of energy curing to metal coil coaters. As a matter of fact, the coatings have been specifically developed to guarantee lasting durability and reduce energy usage, water consumption and CO2 emissions.
Moreover, the coatings from the new range from PPG are formulated without solvents that release Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and can applied be with multiple methods, including roll-, curtain- and slot-die-coating. In addition, they can be customised to meet even the most stringet requirements for weatherability, durability, chemical resistance and flexibility.
“There is no doubt that coil coaters will adopt these technologies with greater frequency due to their advantages, most notably significant energy savings and fast curing. Our portfolio of electron-beam and ultraviolet coil coatings will grow as we continue to develop new energy curable solutions that meet the changing needs of our customers,” has added Craig Smith, the global technical platform director of the Coil Coatings division of PPG.
