AkzoNobel's South American paint and coatings facilities will use only green electricity.
The international paints and coatings manufacturer AkzoNobel
announces that all of its factories in Latin America now operate on 100% renewable electricity - further strengthening the company's goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50% across the entire value chain by 2030.
“We’re very proud to have successfully switched over to 100% renewable electricity and give further momentum to the company’s drive to transition all of its sites globally,” has commented Daniel Campos, Director of AkzoNobel’s Decorative Paints Latin America business and a member of the Executive Committee.
The transition to 100% renewable electricity in Latin America involved the installation of 1,580 panels at the Recife (Brazil) decorative paints plant as well as 4,640 panels at the Rionegro (Colombia) paints and coatings plant. Additionally, AkzoNobel is taking other important steps towards 100% renewable electricity, including self-produced renewable electricity and renewable electricity procurement.
“As the first paints and coatings company to set science-based sustainability targets, we’re fully focused on fulfilling our ambitions and this latest achievement in Latin America is another important step in the right direction. We also continue to engage with suppliers and develop sustainable solutions in order to help our customers reduce their own carbon footprint,” has added Wijnand Bruinsma, AkzoNobel’s Director of Sustainability.
