Dürr's new solution enables VOC-free colour changes with 2K clear coats, reducing environmental impact and improving efficiency.
The multinational company Dürr has introduced an innovative technology for two-component (2K) coatings that eliminates emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) thanks to a return system integrated in the atomizer.
Traditionally, washing and colour changes in 2K systems released large quantities of VOCs. The EcoBell PurgeBox system used to reduce these emissions by up to 60%, but with Dürr's new development a 95% reduction is achieved. The system allows for the collection of mixed clear coats without curing, thanks to a patented process with optimised parameters.
The innovation includes up to two main needles in the atomizer and diaphragm valve technology, ensuring precise mixing with minimal volumes. VOC emissions only occur during cup cleaning in the EcoBell Cleaner D2, with no release during washing and colour change.
In addition to sustainability, the return system improves production efficiency: cleaning and new product loading occur in parallel, reducing colour change times to just 15 seconds. This allows a wider use of effect finishes in automotive coatings, traditionally reserved for exclusive segments.
Combined with EcoBell4 Pro, this technology offers maximum flexibility with two return lines for two-component material (2x2K) and allows the resin and hardener to be prepared for the next body while the previous one is being painted. In addition, chemically incompatible resins and hardeners can also be handled via separate channels.
The EcoBell4 Pro sprayer is available in 2x2K and 1x2K variants, while the EcoBell3 can be upgraded to 1x2K. A new system with this technology is already being commissioned. Besides the drastic reduction in VOC emissions and washing agent consumption, the system lowers investment costs by eliminating the need for funnels, EcoBell PurgeBox units and additional accessories.
