“The difference between something good and something great is attention to detail.” - C. R. Swindoll

Attention to detail, accuracy, precision and diligence in completing tasks are some of the most sought-after soft skills in the world of work today: an essential requirement when hiring new employees. However, attention to detail permeates our lives and our purchasing behaviours much more than we usually think. In the manufacturing industry, it has always been crucial and it is also synonymous with technological accuracy, process specificity, plant and machinery customisation, attention to quality and care in implementing production cycles.

Yet, in recent years, it has also acquired new meanings intended to meet other requirements such as sustainability, a healthy working environment, the preservation of resources and energy saving. One example of this is the focus on the design and liveries of machine tools, which are being placed in increasingly well-kept production environments. Or the tidiness and cleanliness of factories, an indicator of operational quality and accuracy but also of attention to employees. Or the integration of upstream processes into one’s standard production cycle to reduce pollution and waste. But also maniacal attention to one’s customers and the service provided to them, with a view to loyalising them and relieving them of the management of all aspects that are not related to their core businesses.

You will find these and many other insights in the pages of this rich edition of ICT Industrial Cleaning Technologies, which this year we issued earlier than usual to reach the most important trade fairs for the cleaning and precision surface finishing industry: parts2clean in Stuttgart – which celebrates its 20th anniversary – held at the end of September and not at the end of October as usual and DeburringEXPO, organised from 10th to 12th October in Karlsruhe.

At parts2clean, in particular, an emerging trend in surface cleaning that has a lot to do with attention to detail will be explored: High Purity, a phrase that encompasses all high-purity cleaning applications such as those increasingly found in the optical, semiconductor, electromobility, medical, pharmaceutical, sensor and measurement and analysis industries. Manufacturing companies are facing major challenges to remain competitive. Production steps such as deburring, edge rounding, component cleaning, and precision surface finishing are often overlooked, but they should not be because the optimisation potential of these processes is enormous.

The parts2clean and DeburringEXPO trade fairs are going to present a wealth of solutions, ideas and suggestions for optimising processes, reducing costs and increasing sustainability, but also for counteracting the shortage of skilled workers common to many European countries.
