In the Color Creation Lab, the stylists of PPG and Chery Automobile will create new colours tailored to specific vehicle designs.
PPG
has recently announced the opening of the Color Creation Lab in collaboration with the automaker Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. At the facility – located in Wuhu – the colour stylists and the designers of both companies will create new colours tailored to specific vehicles.
From initial colour recommendations to final materials for application in the manufacturing plants, the laboratory will feature innovative solutions for colour digitisation, analysis and evaluation on interior and exterior automotive parts. The process will include extensive sampling and formulation testing to ensure that the colour will have a uniform appearance, provide proper adhesion and extend durability.
“As the leading single-source coatings supplier for automotive manufacturing, PPG is excited to partner with Chery, a company that prioritizes technological innovation and sustainable production. We will leverage our global color leadership to predict future trends, while advancing paint technology for the next generation of Chery vehicles,” has stated Thomas Li, the vice-president of the Automotive Coatings division of PPG for the Asia-Pacific region.
PPG began supplying Chery with coatings in 2003. Five years later, it also opened an automotive coatings production site in Wuhu to support local car manufacturers.
“The Color Creation Lab is the culmination of 20 years of collaboration between PPG and Chery. Working together, we will combine our areas of expertise to bolster automotive colour planning and management and design efficient processes to give car buyers the ideal purchasing experience with the colour choices they want,” has also added Federico Menta, the global director of decorative coatings for PPG.
