Tikkurila and PPG send humanitarian aid to help Ukrainian refugees.
To help and support the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens forced to flee their homes over the past week, Tikkurilla, together with its owner PPG, have sent humanitarian relief and longer-term recovery support.
In particular, to respond to the immediate and essential needs of refugees arriving in the countries where the companies are present, both have donated funds to some relief organizations that address immediate and essential needs. They collaborate with Polska Akcja Humanitarna, a relief organization in Poland that offers food and other forms of support to those arriving from Ukraine; International Committee of the Red Cross, an organization that provides emergency supplies; and People in Need, an organization based in the Czech Republic and present in Ukraine since 2003, which provides humanitarian aid for basic needs such as food and hygiene items and supports countries experiencing an influx of Ukrainian refugees.
Employees also collaborated through donations to charities dedicated to providing humanitarian support to Ukrainian refugees.
The companies are committed to responding to the needs that will emerge in the coming weeks and months to continue supporting the Ukrainian population.
“In times of crisis, we fulfill our company’s purpose to protect and beautify the world by helping our nonprofit partners adapt to emerging challenges and provide immediate responses. We are committed to supporting these organizations who are providing direct emergency aid”, the companies stated.
Additionally, PPG is scaling down its operations in Russia. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the company's top priority has been to protect the safety and well-being of its employees, including those from Ukraine and those located in Russia. The company has decided to refrain from sales to Russian state entities, which fall within the scope of recent regulations and the aerospace market.
Finally, the company is not making any new investments and has taken steps to close various other operations in Russia. The companies will continue to sell a minimum amount of essential products in Russia because local currency must be generated to maintain employment and meet wages. PPG plans to donate any net profits generated by its Russian operations for the full calendar year 2022 to non-profit organizations providing direct humanitarian support.
