The electric ovens developed by Dürr reduce paint shop CO2 emissions by up to 40%.
Due to the efforts towards climate neutrality, the increased CO2 prices and the uncertainties with the natural gas supply, car manufacturers are searching for new efficient and sustainable alternative solutions to gas-powered production plants. So, the German company Dürr has electrified all the body ovens of its portfolio.
Body drying is the phase that consume more energy during the painting process. By switching from natural gas to regenerative energy like green electricity, it is however possible to reduce the CO2
emissions of a conventional plant by about 40%.
“We have developed a complete concept with several energy efficiency modules so that car manufacturers can already leverage environmentally friendly green electricity for cost-effective production. With a state-of-the-art insulation concept, skidless conveyor technology, and our EcoSmart VEC oven control system, we are coming at this from many directions,” has stated Heiko Dieter, the product manager of Dürr Systems AG.
The machinery and plant engineering company offers individual assessments for existing plants, in order to develop an optimal conversion concept and allow manufacturers to achieve short conversion times. Furthermore, conversion to hydrogen and biogas is also possible.
The air control systems of Dürr
Dürr has also developed several air control systems to improve the sustainability and usability of its ovens, such as the Oxi.X.RV air pollution control system which works electrically according to the principle of regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO).
In addition, the company can also provide EcoSmart VEC, an energy-efficient fresh and exhaust air control system. The predictive software regulates the electricity consumption of the ovens by tailoring the energy demand to the exact number of bodies and reducing consumption during operations at partial load.
“Currently, we have several projects in the pipeline. As the only paint shop supplier, we can offer a complete package for the electrification of dryers and air pollution control, combined with energy efficiency technologies for reducing operating costs. We are putting all this into practice with products from our portfolio. For our customers, switching to electric body drying is completely risk-free. With no change in the usual Dürr quality and no change in the drying conditions, the only change is in the energy source,” has concluded Dieter.
