Evonik has opened a new facility in Shanghai in order to increase its production capacity for the coating additives business line.
Evonik’s Coating Additives business line has increased the production capacity of several of its critical coating additives belonging to the TEGO® Glide and TEGO® Wet range. The new facility in Shanghai (China) will allow to lower lead times for slip, flow and substrate wetting additives in Asia and increase supply security worldwide.
As the reliable availability of additives is fundamental for both Evonik and its customers, the facility will integrate the production of the German site while maintaining the products’ properties and quality, as well as specifications, production processes, recipes, quality control measures, and CAS numbers.
“This means higher supply security for all our customers worldwide as well as reduced lead times for our Asian customers. Furthermore, the capacity increase allows for quicker reaction to changing market demands,” stated Gaetano Blanda, head of the Coating Additives business line at Evonik.
The TEGO Glide series consists of slip and flow additives that improve the flow, leveling and optical appearance of the coating, in addition to anti-cratering and anti-blocking effects. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for the architectural coating, wood coating, and printing ink industries.
The TEGO Wet series, on the other hand, includes substrate wetting additives that enable uniform wetting for coatings and printing inks, also on very-low-energy or contaminated surfaces, allowing defects in the coating surface (such as cratering and poor leveling) to be minimised or improved. Typical application areas are architectural, wood, industrial, and plastic coatings.
