The multinational BASF has announced it will exclusively produce bio-based Ethyl Acrylate (EA) to meet its environmental goals, especially in the paints and coatings industries.

The new bio-based EA, produced at BASF’s Ludwigshafen facility, boasts a 40% bio-based carbon content, verified through the 14C traceable DIN EN 16640 standard. This innovative product not only reduces the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) by approximately 30% compared to traditional fossil-based EA but also aligns with BASF’s rigorous sustainability criteria. In addition, for customers seeking even greater sustainability, BASF offers a variant of bio-based Ethyl Acrylate that is BMB ISCC Plus certified. This version features a reduced carbon footprint through BASF’s biomass balance (BMB) approach, which includes a blend of fossil-based and certified sustainable materials.
