Allnex will use mass-balanced biobased pentaerythritol in all the alkyds produced in the EMEA region.
Allnex, an international supplier of resins for sustainable coatings, has recently announced that its Liquid Resins & Additives (LRA) business line will start using mass-balanced biobased pentaerythritol in all the alkyds produced in the European sites.
The bio-content of the water borne and solvent borne RESYDROL®, SETAL® and SETAQUA® alkyds will then increase by 25%, reaching a total of more than 60%. The decision is part of the new Environmental Sustainability Governance Program of the company. The bio-enhanced alkyds of Allnex will be offered at the same price of the previous products and will not need reformulations, testing or performance compromise.
“With this step we are making our alkyds more environmentally friendly, it is a clear example of the leading role allnex plays in making the coatings industry more sustainable”, has stated Ruben Mannien, the executive vice-president of the LRA business line at Allnex.
The sustainability programme of the company focuses also on environmentally-friendly solutions that can help its customers to further reduce the carbon footprint of their products. As a matter of fact, Allnex expects to reduce its Scope 3 CO2 emissions by over one kiloton on an annualised basis.
“This conscious decision to transition to a feedstock with higher bio content is an important step as it should create a ripple effect with our customer’s and theirs, for new promotional ideas and opportunities for their now greener coatings, collectively moving our industry into a more sustainable direction”, has also commented Robert Skarvan, the global marketing director of Allnex’s LRA.
