BYK will increase the production of defoamers and surface additives for automotive, industrial and architectural coatings.
BYK has officially opened its second additive manufacturing facility in Tongling (China) to better serve both the local and the international automotive, industrial, furniture and architectural coatings markets. BYK will produce defoamers, surface additives and several other raw materials.
“These are some of many application areas where we can create added value. They are an important part of our long-term growth strategy. China is also becoming more important as an independent automobile manufacturer with high expectations in terms of innovation and sustainability. This also includes battery technology where considerable progress is being made to keep up with demand from OEMs,” has stated Gerd Judith, the managing director for Marketing & Sales and responsible for the Asian activities of BYK Additives. “With our production sites in the US, China and Europe, we are broadly and efficiently positioned and can therefore easily compensate for possible fluctuations.”
The new site, that also includes laboratories and administration offices and is equipped with solar panels covering 2,000 m2, has an initial output of 4,750 tonnes – which will increase to over 20,000 tonnes. The investment, part of the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP), totalled a low double-digit million EUR amount and covers an area of 1.16 hectares.
“China is the decisive growth market in the medium and long term. The opening of SCIP II represents a milestone in our global growth strategy. Many global value chains have a broad base in China. The completion of the project underlines our ambitions,” has also declared Tammo Boinowitz, the president of BYK.
