Clariant will present several sustainable solutions for paints and coatings at the next edition of American Coatings Show, taking place from 30th April to 2nd May 2024.
Clariant has announced its participation at the American Coatings Show 2024 trade fair, where it will present a wide range of innovative and low environmental impact paints and coatings.
“Clariant is delighted to share our high-performance, eco-friendly solutions with our customers in the paint and coatings industry. These include the ClariCoat digital platform and our portfolio of wetting and dispersing agents to help formulators find the perfect match for their specific requirements and to extend the open time of water-based acrylic and polyurethane paints,” has stated Sebastian Prock, Head of Marketing & Application Development, Industrial Applications, Business Unit Care Chemicals.
The ClariCoat digital platform has been designed to help customers find the best wetting and dispersing agents depending on their specific needs and preferences – including performance criteria such as stability and sustainability. The recommendations are also suitable for both low and high pigment-to-volume lacquers.
Furthermore, Clariant will also introduce a series of wetting and dispersing agents that allow coating manufacturers to increase the working time of their acrylic and polyurethane paints. Indeed, these agents were developed in response to environmental and health concerns associated with the high and semi-volatile content of organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs) in traditional solvent-based coatings – while also improving gloss, levelling and sag resistance properties.
“As part of Clariant’s commitment to sustainability, we have also developed polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-free and renewable-based solutions for the printing industry. We see the future of printing inks as a blend of vibrancy and sustainability, where creative expression coexists with environmental responsibility,” has added Ray Gonzales, Head of Marketing Coatings & Adhesives, Business Unit Adsorbents and Additives.
Lastly, Clariant will showcase three eco-friendly alternatives to reduce the use of PTFE-containing additives:
- Ceridust 8170 M: a PTFE- and PFAS-free texturising agent for powder coatings that further reduces energy consumption in the powder coating extrusion process;
- Ceridust 8330: a bio-based additive obtained from a renewable resource that has superior abrasion resistance properties compared to traditional wax-based products;
- Licocare RBW VITA: a multi-purpose additive for coating applications derived from raw rice bran wax, a renewable-based high-performance solution used in various industries.
