The new state-of-the-art centre in the Italian site of PPG will increase the efficiency in developing colour solutions for the automotive industry.
The global manufacturer of paints and coatings PPG has recently announced that it has inaugurated a new technological centre
in its Quattordio (Italy) site, in order to increase the development of colours for the automotive sector. The $2.6 million investment combines colour development and application in a single process, reducing the lead time, optimising costs and maximising performances.
The new facility is equipped with the Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including a statistical and machine-learning system capable of reducing the number of colour adjustment steps, saving energy costs and decreasing the cycle time for the development of coatings.
“With this new facility, PPG will elevate its colour development to a new level, utilising digital tools to simplify and modernise the processes. It is also a critical enabler to fulfil our customer expectations in terms of speed, accuracy and quality,” has stated Federico Menta, global director Decorative business, Automotive Coatings of PPG.
