AkzoNobel will invest around €8 million in two new research and development centres for powder coating in the Netherlands.
The international paints and coatings manufacturer AkzoNobel
has recently announced its decision to invest almost €8 million in its site in Sassenheim (Netherlands), in order to build two new technology centres for powder coatings inside its largest European research and development hub.
The Dutch plant already includes a newly-opened polymer laboratory that will focus on producing innovative resin solutions, as well as facilities for decorative paints and automotive coatings. The addition of the two new laboratories and fifteen scientists will help the company to further expand its global reputation for pioneering product development focused on providing creative and sustainable technologies for its customers.
“Creating the new powder coatings lab will enable us to carry out the fundamental research needed to continue to innovate with impact and bring more sustainable products to the market. By developing new technologies for the future, we will unlock more customer and application opportunities while supporting multiple options, including low-temperature curing. This will further enhance our ability to cut carbon emissions across the value chain,” has stated Roger Jakeman, the Chief Technology Officer of AkzoNobel. “The performance of a paint or coating is largely defined by the design of the resins used. They are a vital ingredient in the manufacturing process. The new lab will therefore play an important role in boosting our capabilities and strengthen our industry-leading expertise.”
“The investment of AkzoNobel in these two new research laboratories underlines their commitment to sustainable product development in our region and in the Netherlands. We are proud that this initiative is taking shape in our municipality,” has added Carla Breuer, the mayor of Teylingen – the municipality where Sassenheim is located.
