Kynar 500® PVDF offers architects and specifiers a trusted solution for long-lasting performance.

Arkema marks the 60th anniversary of its flagship product Kynar 500® PVDF, a high-performance fluoropolymer that has set the global standard for the formulation of durable construction paints. Distributed exclusively through a strict licensing programme with select paint manufacturers, Kynar 500 PVDF is synonymous with quality and reliability in the construction industry. With production facilities worldwide, Arkema ensures consistent supply and support for its global customer base.

“We offer 60 years of proof. This is more than just a well-known trademark; it represents peace of mind for architects. The Kynar 500 trademark license serves as a certificate of authenticity, guaranteeing unmatched durability. We are proud to celebrate this milestone and remain committed to supporting our coatings customers for decades to come,” has stated Laurent Tellier, the vice-president of the High Performance Polymers and Fluorogases division of Arkema.

Kynar 500 PVDF-based paints are widely recognised for their superior resistance to UV radiation, harsh weather conditions, and environmental pollutants. As a matter of fact, they play critical role in sustainable urban development, as they can protect buildings for decades without noticeable deterioration or the need for re-painting operations, reducing long-term maintenance costs and environmental impact.

Applied through factory-controlled spray or coil coating processes, Kynar 500 PVDF coatings are used on metal substrates in the construction of skyscrapers, airports, hotels, shopping malls, and landmark structures worldwide. Notable examples include the Empire State Building in new York, the Grande Arche de la Défense in Paris and the Esplanade in Singapore.

Expanding its innovation in sustainable coatings, Arkema has also developed waterborne PVDF solutions such as Kynar Aquatec®, designed for field applications and restoration projects. Recognised by the Solar Impulse Foundation as one of the ‘1,000 Solutions’ for a more sustainable planet, Kynar Aquatec coatings can significantly reduce exterior surface temperatures by up to 32 °C, helping to combat the urban heat island effect in densely populated areas.
