Cortec Launches Eco Wrap, the World's First Compostable Industrial Strength Machine Grade Stretch Film

Date: 17/02/2021

Cortec announced the launch of Eco Wrap, a compostable industrial strength machine grade stretch film, which is currently patent pending.

Eco Wrap®, the latest product launched by Cortec, is the world's first compostable industrial strength machine grade stretch film, which formula uses a certified compostable resin and a tackifier additive to make an industrial strength compostable stretch wrap that can be used on most standard automated stretch wrap equipment to prepare pallets of goods for storage, inventory, or shipment.

This new product is part of Cortec's effort towards the development of "greener" packaging materials. Moreover, the new Eco Wrap® formulation expands the company's line of existing commercially compostable films and bags and is an exciting breakthrough after many years in development, making commercially compostable machine grade stretch wrap a viable option for use in several industrial applications.

Eco Wrap® will be extruded at and distributed around the world from Cortec's film production bases in North America (Cortec® Advanced Films) and Europe (EcoCortec®).

A greener packaging option

Eco Wrap® can be used anywhere a conventional stretch film is needed, i.e., for agriculture bundling, corralling of goods for storage and shipment, pallet wrapping, luggage wrapping at airport, packaging construction materials or transporting furniture. It works on most existing automated machines and is easily applied by adjusting the tension (typically increasing since it is extremely elastic).

By applying Eco Wrap®, users can also improve their environmental impact. In fact, while most applications require three wraps of standard film, Eco Wrap® only requires two wraps, without compromising on strength or protection. It is also commercially compostable[1] according to ASTM D6400 and may allow its users to avoid tariffs, fines, and tip fees in areas where polyethylene is prohibited or restricted. Eco Wrap® is shelf and curb stable and will retain its integrity until disposed of properly.
