The plant located in Westwego will be closed in June 2025, but the production in the new Bay City facility will begin in the first half of 2024.

Röhm has recently announced that it is planning to shut down its facility based in Westwego (Louisiana, U.S.A.) by June 2025. However, the company also announced the opening of a new production site in Bay City (Texas), that will manufacture around 250,000 metric tons of methyl methacrylate annually and create 70 job positions.

The international producer of methacrylate manufactures several monomers used in a wide range of applications, such as coatings, plastics and construction materials. Until the shutdown scheduled date, it will continue to process material and supply the market. The construction of the new plant continues on-schedule, with production expected to begin in the first half of 2024.

In addition, Röhm will provide guidance and support the employees affected by the relocation of the activities by partnering with industry resources and the United Steel Workers union and providing a financial package, in order to ensure a smooth transition and mitigate hardships.

“The closure of the Westwego plant comes after strategic financial and production network analysis, taking into account the improved efficiency and distribution that our future Bay City plant will provide. Decisions that directly impact the lives of our employees are extremely difficult to make and we will work closely with employees to assist them during this time”, has stated Jack Chenault, the president of Röhm America.
