The coating manufacturer AkzoNobel has revealed Bright Skies, its colour of the year 2022.
AkzoNobel has revealed its colour of the year for 2022: Bright Skies™. An extensive global trend research led by the company’s paints and coatings colour experts and international designers has discovered that the airy light blue hue will be the most appreciated and used colour for the next year.
The research reported that, after having spent so much time inside, people are feeling shut in and desire expansion, open air and connections to great outdoor landscapes.
“In 2022, Bright Skies will help us embrace new ideas and shape a new future. The color reflects the limitless skies above us, giving us the space to redefine the role of our homes, nature, the arts and new voices in our lives. As consumers look to express themselves and transform their spaces, our aim as color experts is to inspire their color confidence,” stated Heleen van Gent, Creative Director of AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Center.
The Global Aesthetic Center’s annual trend report and colour research is transformed by AkzoNobel into colour, products and inspiring visual content.
“Our Paints and Coatings businesses use research insights to bring surfaces to life with on-trend colors. Every year, we pioneer a new world of possibilities for customers and consumers, offering market-specific colors and finishes across decorative paints, architecture, aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics and wood coatings,” added Michael Friede, Chief Commercial Officer for Performance Coatings at AkzoNobel.
In order to allow customers and users to better understand and experience Bright Skies and its other shades, the AkzoNobel Aesthetic Center has designed four decorative colour palettes: Workshop colours, Greenhouse colours, Studio colours and Salon colours. They can be used to define zones in multipurpose spaces, convey a sense of nature indoors and create a soothing atmosphere or encourage a sense of unity.
The trends are also translated into the Automotive and Specialty Coatings, Coil and Extrusion Coatings, Powder Coatings and Wood Coatings businesses. Tailor-made colour palettes will also be developed for the aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, metal furniture, domestic appliances, cabinetry, flooring, building products and architecture markets.
