Arkema will produce ethyl acrylate for paints and coatings exclusively from bio-ethanol sustainably sourced from bio-mass feedstock.
The international specialty chemicals manufacturer Arkema has recently announced that the company is now producing ethyl acrylate for paints and coatings at its acrylic monomers facility in Carling (France) exclusively from bio-ethanol sustainably sourced from biomass feedstock.
“The exclusive production of bio-sourced ethyl acrylate in our plant in Carling will have a global significant industry impact. It sets the stage for the next generation of sustainable coating products, empowering both our downstream production and our customers in achieving their sustainable development goals and carbon reduction objectives,” has stated Hervé Castres Saint Martin, the president of the Acrylic Monomers division at Arkema.
The bio-based ethyl acrylates from Arkema have a bio-carbon content of 40% and offer product carbon footprint reduction of up to 30%, supporting the efforts of the company to decarbonise its acrylics range and complementing the investment announced in 2023 to optimise the production processes and reduce emissions by 20%.
“It will enable us to expand our bio-based and lower-carbon specialty acrylic resins and additives for coating applications in fast growing markets, such as new energies, e-mobility, living comfort and building efficiency,” has added Karine Elie, the managing director of the Rheology and Specialty Additives unit at Arkema.
