The company is leader in services for the Brazilian automotive market, reaching over 80% of market share in several segments.
Dürr Brazil, that celebrated its 50th anniversary in December 2014, closed 2013 with revenues of € 200 million, mostly related to painting technologies implementations in the Brazilian automotive industry, where it holds over 80% of the market share for this service. "Despite the volatility of the market, our international integration policy allows a continuous flow of research and development with little interference from the local economic situation," said the CEO of Dürr AG, Ralf W. Dieter.
For 2014 the prospects are even bigger due to the acquisition of Homaq by the Dürr Group, the increase in car production in Brazil - estimated at 6% on average from 2014 to 2018 - as well as the growing demand for more capacity in service delivery and even the creation of completely new services. Besides the automotive industry, Dürr Brazil meets other sectors' needs with great potential such as the aeronautical, pharmaceutical and chemical segments.
"The 'Durr 2017' plan determines exactly how the company should grow in Brazil in the coming years. In the last three years, the sales growth in the country grew up 30%, the highest rate among the BRICS, but there is still much to do," says Dieter.
Brazil was the first country to have a subsidiary of the company outside Germany in 1964, and today, on its 50th anniversary on Brazilian soil, Dürr Group is present in 28 countries. Back at the time, Latin America was not an obvious choice for investment due to various economic uncertainties, but the difficulty in obtaining financing from banks has not stopped the company from starting here its global expansion.
Environmental technology
Dürr Brazil works in the development of painting systems, final assembly and technology for production of aircrafts; paint application technology, sealants and adhesives; balancing and cleaning systems; exhaust-air purification systems and energy-efficiency technology.
Environmental technology is a field with great potential in Brazil. Maintaining the quality of production while reducing the use of water and electricity making the most of the raw material and avoiding pollution of soil and groundwater is a goal constantly sought by the company. If a few years ago a paint shop required equivalent energy to power up a German town of 50,000 inhabitants, for instance, today Dürr subsidiaries already reduced this use of electricity by about 60% in what the company calls a "game changer" in this competitive market.
Dürr Brazil leads the painting robots and sealing national market (over 80% of the market share); balancing machines (over 80%); cleaning test of automotive parts (over 70%); and paint shops with mechanical dry scrubbers, 360° rotatory transporters for surface treatment and virtual commissioning plants (over 70%).
In what it's not the only company capable of doing to this day, it was a pioneer. Dürr Brazil was the first in the country to create: An automotive paint robot – there are currently 600 active; a cleaning robot for body shells with rotating brushes; a paint sprayer with two main sprinklers and a blow cleaning station and a balancing machine. "No other company has such a comprehensive portfolio. In any case, we do not live in the past, because we also have ambitious plans for the future. Today we can say, realistically, that wherever there is manufacturing of cars, there is Dürr Brasil," said the CEO.
The company also supplies full systems, from engineering to turn key final installation, a field where it holds 35% of the market share in Brazil. It is the only company in the country able to perform this service and the only one that can provide complete turn key systems to control air emissions.
Its more than 300 employees, 80% of whom are young executives, maintain a daily exchange with their international colleagues and often participate in specialized courses around the world in order to maintain the cutting edge technology that is the hallmark of the company. Brazil, like many other countries, conducts its projects counting on the expertise of Dürr Group, not just the local team.
