The MEA sites of Henkel have switched to 100% renewable electricity to eliminate CO2 emissions and reduce fossil fuels.

Henkel Adhesive Technologies has reached a significant sustainability milestone for its eight manufacturing sites based in Turkey, Kenya, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which switched to renewable electricity sources, including on-site solar, hydroelectric and wind energy and thus eliminatingScope 2 CO2 emissions.

As a matter of fact, this shift has reduced the CO2 emissions of the global manufacturer and supplier of adhesives, sealants and functional coatings by approximately 10,471 tons annually, that are equivalent to the carbon footprint of about 2,500 gasoline-powered cars or 2,700 flights from New York to Singapore: a significant reduction in fossil fuel dependence that set a benchmark for the industry.

“By achieving complete decarbonisation of our scope 2 operations in our MEA sites, we’ve turned our commitments into tangible progress on the path to achieving climate positive operations by 2030. This achievement is a testament to the zeal of our IMEA team to drive transformative environmental change and create a more sustainable future,” has stated Veerabhadra Konakalla, Head of Safety Health & Environment Henkel Adhesive Technologies IMEA.

This achievement is aligned with the 2030+ Sustainability Ambition Framework of Henkel, which aims for climate-positive operations by 2030 and a net-zero pathway. The sustainability strategy of the company reflects a commitment to ‘Purposeful Growth’, aiming to create more value for stakeholders, develop business responsibly and successfully, as well as reinforce its leading role in sustainability.
