The expansion of the Malaysian site provides PPG with additional capacity and testing services for regional customers.

The international paints and coatings manufacturer PPG has recently announced that it has expanded the operations in its Petaling Jaya (Malaysia) site, in order to include the production of non-stick coatings for kitchenware, industrial bakeware and other low-friction applications.

The Malaysian plant is now equipped with five new manufacturing lines for both water-based and solvent-based non-stick and low-friction coatings. Then, the facility has now also the additional capacity necessary to support the growing local demand, as well as an increased space dedicated to valuable services for customers – including a state-of-the-art testing laboratory. The dual capability enables the company to tailor solutions to meet a wide range of customer needs and product specifications.

“Our investment in this facility underscores our commitment to growth in the region. We are proud to now offer customers in the Asia-Pacific region a more consistent and reliable supply, along with additional value-added services. The capacity expansion in Petaling Jaya better equips us to meet the increasing demand for high performance non-stick and low friction coatings,” has stated Irene Tasi, the senior vice-president of the Industrial Coatings division at PPG.

The Petaling Jaya site will mostly serve customers in the energy sector, since low friction coatings offer the high degree of corrosion resistance and controlled torque required for oil and gas applications. Additionally, non-stick and decorative coatings produced at the plant will provide customers in the kitchen and industrial bakeware industries with PFAS-free coatings options.

“Our investment in the Petaling Jaya plant reflects our commitment to the growing number of customers based here that rely on our high-performance coatings. This expansion also demonstrates our dedication to expanding our portfolio of sustainably advantaged solutions, particularly for the kitchen and bakeware industries,” has concluded Denise Lu, the general manager of the Industrial Coatings division for the Asia-Pacific region.
