Finding the right coating and colour for any building is crucial for architects – it can make or break the vision and design of the finished structure.
The decision process can be quite complicated, involving discussions between the architect, consultants and suppliers to find just the right specification for the coating.
With the latest Design app for architects, AkzoNobel introduces a top-notch digital tool that gives architects and specifiers access to exact color choices wherever they go – via their iPhone.
Following the initial launch of Design app in March 2017, AkzoNobel has launched the latest version, AkzoNobel Design 2.0 which allows architects, designers and specifiers to research and create a full coatings specification for a project entirely from an iPad. And within a matter of minutes.
The app's updated colour selector provides more consistent and accurate colour rendering and, for example, products with a textured finish now have a texture representation displayed in the app. Users can browse hundreds of colours and textures to find the most suitable coating for their design. The colour selector also enables users to capture an image using their Apple device, or upload an image from their photo library, and match any selected colour by scrolling over the image. Chosen colours can then be built into a personalized colour card and emailed directly to clients.
Users can drill down to find full data-sheets, test reports and property characteristics for each coatings range and finish. The app also lets users check real-life examples of projects where their selected products have been used.
"We realise it can be very time-consuming going through colour cards, and then checking that products meet the necessary requirements of durability, toughness and weathering," says Jean-Paul Moonen, AkzoNobel's Global Segment Manager for Architecture, powder coatings. "The app streamlines the whole process, but without any compromise on the level of detail that a specification can demand. And, it can be done from anywhere in the world, whether you're on the road, out in the field, or in your client's office."
The iPad version of AkzoNobel Design app includes the ability to develop a bespoke technical specification by offering a choice of filters at each stage of the decision process. These filters range from type of construction material, geographical location of project and durability requirements to liquid and powder coating options, colour choices and finished look.
