The prestigious ‘CEO Leadership Award’ from Memcom celebrates the results obtained by Tom Bowtell, the Chief Executive Officer of the British Coatings Federation.

The British Coatings Federation (BCF) has recently announced that Tom Bowtell – its Chief Executive Officer – has received the highly-contested ‘CEO Leadership Award’, considered to be one of the most prestigious acknowledgements for an individual within the membership sector, during the 2024 Memcom Excellence Awards ceremony held on Friday 27th September in London.

“I am really honoured to have won the Memcom CEO Leadership award. Many thanks to my wonderful team for nominating me: the art of good leadership is to surround yourself with very talented people, who make you look good! The award is a recognition of that wider teamwork and the success we have had as a group working to deliver for our members. That was why I was so pleased we were also shortlisted for ‘Team of the Year’ prize,” has declared Bowtell. “At the end of the day, we are a membership organisation and everything we do must be focussed on the membership and their needs. That forms the basis of our approach at BCF and, together with genuine, honest, and meaningful collaboration with members themselves has helped lead to significant success and progress in recent years.”

Bowtell has been honoured with the prize because the judging panel has established that the CEO of the BCF has delivered outstanding leadership and has shown how the organisation has advanced under his leadership. The association had already obtained the ‘Best Trade Association’ at the previous edition of the awards.

Furthermore, the Federation was also nominated for the ‘Sustainability Award’, thanks to its efforts towards its Road to Net Zero publication, that is leading the way on the industry-wide commitment to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and supporting its members on the journey.

“Mr. Tom Bowtell is a worthy winner, because he is showing a breadth of competence across all areas and his approach to finance and governance has left the British Coatings Federation financially secure. This ‘quiet revolution’ has not been just about processes, but also about creating a sound base for the delivery of more benefits to members. The retention rates and membership satisfaction of the association are a testament to the success of his approach. After twelve years as Chief Executive Officer, he is still leading and inspiring his team and innovating for the future,” have explained the judges.
