Brenntag is further expanding its sustainable product portfolio, offering a safer and more sustainable alternative to petrochemical solvents for the CASE market.

The specialty chemicals manufacturer Brenntag has recently announced that it has signed a sole supplier agreement with GFBiochemicals, in order to distribute three Levulinate esters of the company in Europe: RE:Chemistry solve100, RE:Chemistry move200 and RE:Chemistry clean300 (previously marketed under the name NXT SOLV) can be employed to formulate more sustainable and safer solvents for industrial paints and other chemical products for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers.

“At Brenntag, we are continuously working on expanding our product portfolio of safer and sustainable solutions. The partnership with GFBiochemicals enables us to offer innovative solvents that meet the needs of our customers in various industries and offer a safer alternative for harmful solvents,” has stated Annika Herbst, the European technical business development manager of Brenntag.

The solutions belonging to the RE:Chemistry portfolio of GFBiochemicals are levulinate esters and ketals derived from second-generation raw materials, such as agricultural waste from corncobs and bagasse – i.e.: the dry pulpy fibrous material remaining after crushing sugarcane or sorghum stalks. So, they are particularly suitable to offer a high-performing, safer and biodegradable alternative to conventional fossil-based solvents, as well as a lower environmental footprint. The three Levulinate esters have also an excellent solubility, but no aquatic or vapor toxicity and are non-flammable.

“GFBiochemicals is excited to collaborate with Brenntag bringing our groundbreaking ‘RE:Chemistry’ products to the CASE sector. It is essential that the coatings industry has commercially viable alternatives to damaging incumbent petrochemicals in order to meet ESG goals and support the Net-Zero Industry Act in Europe. We are proud to be making this possible. Our unique bio-based technology can enable product developers and formulators to create safer and more sustainable products that always deliver high impact. Via our partnership with Brenntag we aim to accelerate the de-fossilization of the coatings industry and lead the green chemistry revolution,” has added Jan Weernink, the CCO of GFBiochemicals.
