Chemetall, a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals announced the opening of a new R&D facility located in the heart of Silicon Valley in Fremont, California.

Chemetall's Precision Microchemicals group develops and produces high purity coolants, lubricants, abrasive slurries and cleaners used in the machining and surface conditioning of electronic materials for device fabrication.

The Precision Microchemicals group operates a 12,000 square foot facility comprising of administrative offices, an R&D laboratory, and a Process Development laboratory which specializes in lapping, polishing, chemo-mechanical polishing/planarizing (CMP), and cleaning. An experienced and highly motivated team of chemists, Quality Assurance and process engineers is already meeting the specialty fluid needs of our global, high technology client base.

"Our move to Silicon Valley is a smart, strategic decision because of its proximity to important industries such as semiconductor, LED, HDD and optics/photonics. These industries need local technical support, as well as collaborative manufacturing and logistics services," said Niraj Mahadev, Director of Precision Microchemicals.

Chemetall's Precision Microchemicals' facility in Fremont, CA is further supported by a cutting-edge manufacturing plant in Jackson Township, MI and global manufacturing sites in Frankfurt, Germany and Singapore. Products designed and developed in Fremont, CA can be readily scaled and produced in any of Chemetall's ISO 9001:2008 registered plants.

Mahadev further explained: "Whether the client is sawing a silicon wafer, grinding or lapping a sapphire substrate, polishing a III-V/II-VI compound semiconductor crystal, planarizing a magnetic recording head or cleaning any of these components, Chemetall's Precision Microchemicals team offers best-in-class products to meet customers' needs in the industry. In many instances, our clients require a solution utilizing customized chemistry. Chemetall excels in the rapid formulation and delivery of products to meet these specific needs." He added, "Our company's process development laboratory is specially equipped to evaluate the performance of abrasive slurries in lapping, polishing and CMP of electronic materials and subsequent cleaning processes. Our clients benefit from our simulation and testing capabilities during the initial evaluation of products. Performance is optimized prior to production for best results."
