Cortec®’s continued commitment to providing innovative corrosion solutions was further reinforced through these valuable contributions at the TDC, enhancing industry collaboration and supporting global efforts to protect critical infrastructure.

Cortec® Corporation’s Chilean branch, Ferrimex, successfully took part in the 2024 edition of the Two-Day Corrosion Conference in Santiago (Chile), organised by the University of Santiago, the AMPP Chilean chapter, and the Chilean Navy. This event brought together leading corrosion experts from academia, industry, and military sectors, including representatives from the Chilean Military, Navy, and Air Force.

The core objective of the TDC is to foster collaboration between the academic and industrial communities, with a shared focus on preserving and maintaining both industrial and military assets. This year’s conference featured 28 insightful presentations, split evenly between universities and companies, covering critical topics such as oil and gas pipeline integrity, surface preparation technology, and corrosion protection monitoring.

A standout session highlighted Chile’s pioneering role in the development of ‘Hidrógeno Verde’ (Green Hydrogen), a renewable energy technology where Chile has emerged as a global leader. Among the event’s key sponsors, Cortec® was represented by Dario Dell’Orto, Vice-President of International Sales, who delivered a compelling presentation on the application of VpCI® inhibitors for pipeline protection in two major international projects:

  • Porto Viro (Italy): In this project, 1300 pipes were preserved during the construction of a pipeline linking the first LNG offshore platform in the Adriatic Sea to the Italian coastline. VpCI®-609 was fogged inside each pipe, while VpCI®-389 was applied to protect the cutbacks. The pipes were then sealed with VpCI®-126 Film, ensuring long-term corrosion protection.
  • Cusco (Peru): For the Gasoducto Peruano Sur project, 3000 pipes were meticulously cleaned and protected with VpCI®-418, VpCI®-609, and VpCI®-126. Additionally, 16 km (9.94 mi) of pre-welded pipes were safeguarded through fogging with VpCI®-337. After protection, the pipes were sealed with MilCorr® VpCI® Shrink Film, offering robust anticorrosion coverage.
