To contribute to the urgent need for humanitarian support to the civilian population in Ukraine, Jotun donated NOK 1 000 000 to Red Cross/Red Crescent. The company also announced the suspension of its operations in Russia until further notice.
Jotun is supporting the Ukrainian civilian population through a donation of NOK 1 000 000 (about 100.000 EUR) to the Red Cross/Red Crescent, which has been present in the country for eight years, serving over 3 million people in need in the conflict areas.
The support will be directed at maintaining critical societal functions such as basic infrastructure and health care supplies and equipment. In addition, there is an urgent need for water supply, food, warm clothes, and basic sanitary standards.
“A part of our Corporate Responsibility strategy is to take responsibility in the areas where we operate, and Jotun want to contribute economically to aid the emergency situation in Ukraine. By choosing Red Cross/Red Crescent as our partner, we know that the money is spent according to our intention”, said Christian Espolin Johnson, Group Communications Director.
Following deep concern about the unfolding conflict in Ukraine, Jotun also announced to have suspended operations in Russia until further notice, where the company has been present since 1989 and has had its own local production since 2017. With more than 300 employees in the country, Russia accounts for between 2 and 3 per cent of Jotun's operating revenues.
"We have been operating in Russia for a long time. We have a good team and a modern production site there. However, based on an overall assessment, we now find it both right and necessary to shut down”, Jotun’s President and CEO Morten Fon commented. “Jotun is deeply concerned about the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing crisis”.
Jotun has no legal entity nor facilities in Ukraine. However, the company has four employees in the country. The safety of the employees in Ukraine and Russia is Jotun's major concern.
