LG Chem and KCC will collaborate to develop new sustainable automotive and industrial coatings.

The specialty chemicals company LG Chem and KCC have recently announced that both businesses jointly signed a cooperation agreement (MOU) for the research and development of technologies and eco-friendly raw materials for paints and coatings at the KCC Central Research Centre in Mabuk-dong (South Korea).

“It is significant that two leading companies in the chemical industry have met and decided to join forces for eco-friendliness. We will present a new standard for eco-friendly products and strive to develop various materials,” has stated Lee Jong-gu, the vice-president of LG Chem.

Through collaboration with LG Chem, KCC expects that it will be able to expand the range of environmentally-friendly solutions and reduce the energy required to produce them. The project will involve applying raw materials based on carbon dioxide conversion or microbial fermentation to paint resin synthesis used in the automotive and industrial sectors.

“The MOU between the two companies is expected to gain momentum in the development of products using eco-friendly raw materials. The carbon-neutral material that LG Chem developed has excellent eco-friendliness and can also upgrade product quality, so the synergy with paint will be great,” has concluded Kim Sang-hoon, the vice-president of KCC.
