The DISABILITY EQUALITY INDEX® assigned the maximum score of 100 to PPG, recognising the company as the Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.
The international paints and coatings manufacturer PPG
has been recently recognised as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” by the DISABILITY EQUALITY INDEX® for the third consecutive year.
The Disability Equality Index, launched in 2015 as a joint initiative of Disability:IN and The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), is known as the most robust disability inclusion assessment tool in business. As a matter of fact, the index was used by 542 corporations, including 220 Fortune 500 companies to benchmark their disability inclusion efforts in its 10th year. The top-scoring businesses – scoring 80 or higher – are recognised as a ‘Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion’ for the benchmark year.
“One of our greatest strengths is the diversity of our people, and we are consistently seeking out new ways to make PPG an inclusive workplace for all. Globally, there are 1.3 billion people with disabilities. Providing equitable experiences for all our employees results in better engagement, increased business performance and more opportunities for all,” states Robert Massy, PPG senior Vice-President and chief human resources officer.
Among PPG's major employee and community engagement projects related to disability inclusion in the past year are:
- Sponsoring two global webcasts for World Mental Health Day (October 2023) and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Awareness (March 2024).
- Inclusive Workplace Training sessions hosted in partnership with Best Buddies International focused on being mindful of people’s disabilities and learning how individuals can make changes to bring about greater acceptance and inclusion.
- Community Engagement projects through PPG’s COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® program in locations that supported community assets for people with disabilities.
“On the 10th anniversary of the Disability Equality Index, we’re extremely proud of the 542 national and international companies that are taking a proactive role in leading progress towards disability inclusion, setting a benchmark for others to follow. Their dedication to fostering inclusive workplaces not only attracts top talent but also drives innovation and creates sustainable performance in today's global market. Together, we are creating a future where everyone can contribute and thrive,” comments Jill Houghton, President and CEO of Disability:IN.
PPG's Abilities First Network
(AFN) was established in 2020 as one of eight global Employee Resource Networks (ERNs). AFN works supports PPG employees with disabilities and educates local communities on how to empower people to reach their full potential. Today, the network has about 1,200 employees in 43 countries.
“As our partners at Disability:IN often share, there is no “right way” to practice inclusion, but I am proud of the work that is being done by PPG employees around the world to build an equitable, inclusive culture The Disability Equality Index has become an invaluable resource in helping us to validate our efforts, and I look forward to our future progress,” adds Robert Massy.
