Polyamides deliver many high performance features, such as toughness, corrosion resistance and electric isolation. Rilsan resin is also water-repellent and offers a high chemical resistance.
The use of Rilsan has numerous advantages. Let's start from its description, in order to better understand its composition and characteristics.
Rilsan is a bio-based, vegetal polyamide that features characteristics like excellent toughness, thermal insulation and anticorrosion. Rilsan is also renewable and, compared to other polyamides, has got high chemical resistance which allows it to stand the aggressive action of oils, solvents, petrol and derived and greasy substances.
Rilsan characteristics
Rilsan coatings deliver the following properties to the surfaces they are applied on:
- electric insulation: higher safety for workers and components, protected from unexpected electric-shocks;
- Anticorrosion: machinery and implants longer life, due to higher quality standards which guarantee thicker coating (from 30 micron to 1 mm), ideal to ensure and effective chemical barrier. Anticorrosive coating are used in chemical and Oil&Gas field.
- Toughness: higher wear resistance because of thermal spray that increases toughness of the surface.
- A Rilsan surface treatment enhances sliding properties, ensuring a better abrasion resistance.
How Rilsan coating is made
In order to apply a Rilsan coating to a surface, polyamide powder is electrostatically projected (this allows the droplets to spread uniformly over the surface) on the cold component through a nozzle under tension. Once in the oven, the droplets melt down and create the protective coating film, highly resistant to abrasion and chemical agents.
For this reason, Rilsan coatings are used to cover pipes, tanks, junctions and rotary screen printing.
