The 2024 Environmental, Social and Governance Report highlighted the progresses of Stahl towards the reduction of CO2 emissions and a more diverse workforce.

The international specialty coatings manufacturer Stahl has recently released its 2024 Environmental, Social and Governance Report, outlining the recent progress of the company in its path towards the reduction of CO2 emissions and a more diverse workforce.

“With our 100 th anniversary approaching in 2030, Stahl continues to take bold steps to ensure long-term impact and relevance. Our achievements represent much more than compliance: they have a material impact on the lives of the people, which is exactly what our purpose is about. And they are made possible by our colleagues, who live this purpose every day,” has stated Maarten Heijbroek, the CEO of Stahl.

To better support the environment and contrast climate change, Stahl has moved closer to its near-term CO2 emissions reduction targets, that had been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. As a matter of fact, the company has reduced its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 39% versus baseline year 2021 and the scope 3.1 category (purchased goods and services) by 31% versus 2021.

Moreover, during the previous year, the business has installed solar water heaters in its facilities in Italy and Mexico. In addition, Stahl updated its double materiality assessment in preparation for the alignment with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive legislation of the European Union, which considers the impact of Stahl on both the environment and the society.

Regarding the social aspect, the workforce of the company grew in size and diversity, with greater representation of women in senior positions. In August, Stahl was also awarded with the ‘Living Wage’ certification issued by the Fair Wage Network, in recognition of its commitment to providing all employees worldwide with a wage that allows them to live in dignity and security.

Furthermore, the personnel participated in a training programme aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of equity in the workplace. Lastly, the company expanded its employee training, launched a new leadership mentoring programme and reinforced health and safety initiatives.
