AkzoNobel Unveils Accelshield™ 300: A New Internal Coating for Beverage Cans

AkzoNobel launches Accelshield™ 300, an innovative, Bisphenol- and Styrene-free solution addressing long-term regulatory challenges in the beverage can industry.

AkzoNobel Packaging Coatings introduced Accelshield™ 300, an internal coating for beverage cans that is free of Bisphenols (non-intent) and Styrene. This coating offers exceptional corrosion protection while providing coil coaters, can manufacturers, and brands with a reliable, long-term solution to meet current and future regulatory requirements concerning materials of concern.

Approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and key beverage brands, and compliant with current and future EU regulations, Accelshield™ 300 provides the metal can packaging industry with a viable and safe alternative for the most challenging liquids. Laboratory and brand testing also indicates improved flavour performance compared to earlier market solutions.

Accelshield™ 300 features a novel acrylic resin network interwoven with a unique crosslinked polymer matrix. This innovative combination delivers enhanced corrosion protection, flexibility, and superior sensory performance. It integrates seamlessly into existing production lines without disruptions, enhancing production efficiency by curing rapidly and reducing energy costs compared to epoxy-based coatings.
