AkzoNobel’s Color of the Year for 2025 True Joy™ is a sunny yellow which fills our homes with optimism, pride and a splash of vibrant color.

The international paints and coatings supplier AkzoNobel has recently unveiled its Colour of the Year 2025: True Joy, a yellow resulting from extensive research into colour, design, cultural, economic and social trends, which identified the desire to take a joyful leap into the unknown, to celebrate craftsmanship and to embrace who we are.

“In this rapidly changing world, it’s easy to feel uncertain about our next steps. But change creates an opportunity for imagination; a chance to create something even better. With our new Color of the Year and ColourFutures 2025 palettes, we want to inspire consumers to celebrate their roots and creativity and embrace the optimism of moving forward in their homes and spaces,” has declared Heleen van Gent, Creative Director of AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Center.

AkzoNobel's Global Aesthetic Center has been translating trends into desirable colours for our homes for over 30 years. Its annual trend forecast meeting ColourFutures brings together international interior experts, architects, designers and journalists to share insights into how our reactions to the world around us influence our colour choices. This year, for the first time, junior designers and interns were also included to ensure that consumers of the widest age range were represented in the decision-making process of the influential Colour of the Year.

These discussions led to the creation of three decorative colour stories around True Joy, to help consumers find the complementary colours best suited to their mood and design preferences:

  • The Bold colour story invites you to step out of your comfort zone and introduce adventure into your home with vibrant and exciting colours.
  • The Human colour story encourages creativity in one's home, filling it with unique handmade pieces.
  • The Proud colour palette invites you to embrace your identity and have the confidence to create a home that is as unique as you are.

In addition to the Deco brands, trend colours, textures and special effects were also designed for other key markets and segments, including aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, metal furniture and building and architectural products.

"Our Color of the Year shapes the direction of design globally. We are leaders in color trend forecasting and True Joy will have an impact on choices made by architects, interior designers, product developers and our consumers who want and need to be ahead of market trend,” has stated says Jan-Piet van Kesteren, Business Unit Director for Decorative Paints in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
