Michael Schmidt brings with him an impressive international career in Asia and extensive experience in research and development, in production and engineering, and in various commercial functions.
BYK has appointed Michael Schmidt as its new CTO and Global Head of Research and Development.

Michael Schmidt started his career at Bayer AG in 2001 after earning a PhD in polymer science. In 2021, he received an advisory professorship from Donghua University in Shanghai, China. Following several leadership roles both in Germany and internationally, he became the Global Head of Innovation for the Thermoplastic Polyurethane Business Unit at Covestro in 2023.

Michael Schmidt will oversee global research and development efforts, collaborating closely with all BYK business units and external innovation networks to create distinctive, value-added additive solutions. His priorities include advancing sustainable product and process innovations, driving digital transformation within R&D, and transforming regulatory requirements into cutting-edge products.
