The newly-developed fire retardant of Clariant is SVHC-free and has no melamine content, providing superior fire resistance across multiple applications.

Clariant has launched its new melamine-free flame retardant Exolit™ AP 422 A to provide superior fire resistance and meet the stringent demands of modern industries.

In fact, melamine was classified as a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) in 2023, making Exolit AP 422 A valuable for the firestop industry and enabling the creation of high-performance coatings without the need for melamine.

“Exolit AP 422 A upholds the trusted reliability that Exolit products are recognized for in the market and ensures that our clients’ fire protection offerings remain competitive, particularly in terms of chemical compliance. It allows manufacturers to adapt to evolving legislation while preserving the effectiveness of their fire safety solutions,” has sated Sebastian Moschel, Clariant’s Technical Business Development Manager Passive Fire Protection.

Moreover, Exolit AP 422 A will provide superior fire resistance across multiple applications, including intumescent coatings, firestop sealing systems, and PIR insulation panels. Its non-halogenated nature also minimises hazardous emissions.

“Exolit AP 422 A responds to key market trends around tightening fire safety standards, environmental and health concerns, regulatory compliance needs, operational efficiency demands, and the need for versatile solutions across many applications,” has added Clariant’s Global Business Development Manager Polymer Solutions, Christian Battenberg.

Customers using Exolit AP 422 A in firestop products praise this melamine-free flame retardant as a game changer for its reliable fire protection and alignment with sustainability goals. One client highlighted a new competitive advantage by offering safer, eco-friendly solutions. Flame retardants, essential in electronics, transportation, and buildings, also enhance safety in e-mobility, from charging points to circuit breakers. As regulations like REACH evolve, Exolit AP 422 A can offer manufacturers a sustainable, compliant, and future-ready solution for superior fire protection.
