Covestro provides Ukrainian refugees with targeted donations and support.
Following the humanitarian emergency in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, Covestro has decided to help Ukrainian refugees with a targeted aid package. The chemical manufacturer has donated € 250,000 to United Nations Refugee Aid (UNO Flüchtlingshilfe), the German partner organization of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). UNHCR has been active in Ukraine since 1994 and has offices and warehouses throughout the country for the distribution of humanitarian aid; while in neighbouring countries, the organization supports the preparations and ongoing operations of the respective local authorities and humanitarian organizations in order to be able to provide rapid assistance to refugees.
In addition, the Covestro’s facilities based in Slovakia and Poland, countries where many Ukrainian refugees are arriving, have been provided 40,000 euros, which will be donated to local humanitarian organizations.
Covestro CEO Dr. Markus Steilemann stated: “Violence must never be the answer to any conflict. I am shocked and saddened by the terrible events! The violence must stop before more people lose their livelihood, are injured or killed. Supporting people in need is a matter close to our hearts.”
