How long has it been since industrial cleaning systems went from being seen as simple degreasing machines to sophisticated equipment intended for high-tech applications in sensitive environments and suitable for use in contamination-controlled and clean rooms?
Many years in fact, and the evolution has been such that parts cleaning is now rightfully regarded as a strategic step in many industries, especially those requiring ultra-fine, zero-residue cleaning technologies for components built for high precision fields, from optics to medical, from watchmaking to dental, up to military, aerospace, and security applications.
The methods of measuring, controlling, and managing the baths and the effectiveness and consistency of the cleaning process have also multiplied and become more sophisticated and reliable, proving that it is also essential to assess the actual quality of these operations.
This first 2023 issue of ICT_Industrial Cleaning Technologies – which came out well in advance of last years’ editions to catch up with some key trade fairs for the industrial cleaning sector that, after the Covid-19 pandemic, have changed their scheduling – presents some case histories of successful high-tech cleaning applications in different sectors.
For example, satellite roller screws used for the proper functioning of precision gears in manufactures where movement smoothness and long service life are crucial. Or the safety components of car parts, such as airbag inflators.
Hybrid cleaning machines, flexible processes, automation, on-line monitoring of parameters for repeatable results: these are the key elements for such applications of excellence.
Sustainability, of course, has also become another variable at play in the development of cleaning systems: the extension of chemical bath’s service life, the lowest possible consumption of cleaning product, and the purification of water in applications requiring its use are significant aspects that lead to prefer one plant technology to another.
I will not reveal anything more, to leave you with that little bit of healthy curiosity necessary to leaf through the magazine in your hands, which you are also going to spot at all the mechanics-related trade fairs held over the next three months throughout Europe.
