Sherwin-Williams has reached an agreement with local authorities and will soon begin its $300 million investment plan.
The Sherwin-Williams Company has announced that it has reached an agreement with the State of North Carolina (U.S.A.), the Iredell County and the city of Statesville to expand the architectural paint and coatings manufacturing capacity and establish a larger distribution facility
in Statesville. Sherwin-Williams is planning to invest $300 million at least and add over 180 employees, doubling the already existing workforce of the facility.
The expansion project will include a 36,000 ft2
(3,344 m2) extension of the manufacturing facility, four new rail spurs and the construction of an 800,000 ft2 (74,322 m2) distribution and fleet transportation centre, with more space available for future expansion. This upgrade will allow Sherwin-Williams to increase the manufacturing and the pallet storage capacity.
“Sherwin-Williams continues to invest in initiatives that support our growth for years to come. The planned expansion of our Statesville facility demonstrates a deep commitment to both our customers and the region. This investment will not only allow us to meet the growing customer demand in the region, but it will also add a number of good-paying jobs to our already vibrant employee base in the community,” stated John G. Morikis, the Chairman, President and CEO of Sherwin-Williams.
The business carefully considered several locations for its expansion, finally choosing the plant in Statesville because of its transportation infrastructure, the ability to handle expanded capacity and the location that provides for the centralisation of existing distribution opportunities for the regional operations of Sherwin-Williams. In addition, the company will receive almost $30 million from the state, county and local government in form of incentives and benefits.
“Sherwin-Williams has long been a top employer in North Carolina. There are currently more than 2,400 full-time Sherwin-Williams employees working in the state, and today’s announcement ensures a substantial number of jobs will be added over the next three years. Because of this continued partnership, the state was pleased to provide the necessary financial incentives to support the Company's decision to grow its footprint in the city of Statesville for years to come,” commented the Governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper.
“Sherwin-Williams has been an integral part of the Statesville community since 1993. We are thrilled that they decided to continue to invest in our city, our region and our people by expanding their footprint and adding career opportunities with today’s announcement. We look forward to seeing the progress of the project and to welcoming new Sherwin-Williams employees to the enhanced facility in 2024,” concluded Costi Kutteh, the mayor of Statesville.
The construction works are expected to begin during the third quarter of 2022 and to be completed by the end of 2024. The manufacturing facility will continue to operate for the whole duration of the expansion project.
