UBE Corporation will expand the production of PCD to meet the rising demand in the Asian region.
UBE Corporation has recently announced that it has begun the third expansion works for the production facilities of polycarbonate diol (PCD) at UBE Fine Chemicals Co., Ltd – one of its subsidiaries in Thailand. The operations are expected to start in August 2023.
Polycarbonate diol is one of the core products of UBE, as it is mainly used as a polyol component in the principal raw material
in high-grade polyurethane. In order to meet rising demand for PCD as a raw material for sustainable water-based paints and coatings in the Asian region, the company is planning to increase the production capacity from 8,000 tons to 12,000 tons per year.
Waterborne paints with PCD-based polyurethane improve resistance to heat, UV, hydrolysis, oil and weather. In addition, they don’t produce volatile organic compounds. The products are already employed in several sectors, such as automotive, furniture and construction.
