The increase of the global alkyl ethanolamines capacity to 140,000 metric tons per year will help BASF to better support the growing demand for paints and coatings.
The international specialty chemicals manufacturer BASF has recently announced that it has inaugurated a new world-scale production plant for alkyl ethanolamines at its Verbund site in Antwerp (Belgium): the raw material is mostly used as a binder between pigments and resins for paints and coatings and as a precursor for flocculants applied in water treatments.
“This new investment demonstrates our vision to be the preferred partner for sustainable intermediates and our strong commitment to remain a key supplier of alkyl ethanolamines. In fact, we are expanding our global production network and, based on our Verbund integration and competitive technology, we want to enable our customers to grow sustainably,” has stated Ketan Joshi, the president of the Intermediates division at BASF.
The new investment will increase the global annual production capacity for alkyl ethanolamines – including dimethyl ethanolamine (DMEOA) and methyl diethanolamine (MDEOA) – to over 140,000 tons per year (nearly 30)%.
